Ron Moffatt

Ron Moffatt Director International Student Center San Diego State University Ron Moffatt is the 2007 President of NAFSA: Association of International Educators. A NAFSA member since 1976, Ron fulfilled more than a dozen leadership positions at both the regional and national level. Elected to NAFSA’s Board of Directors in 2002, Ron chaired the Development Committee in 2003 and 2004, and the Public Policy Advisory Committee in 2005. Ron was appointed Director of the International Student Center at San Diego State University in1984, after serving as the Coordinator of International Programs at the University of Arkansas since 1977. During the past three decades, Ron has enjoyed working in a variety of volunteer capacities that help him better understand what life looks and feels like from non-western, non-privileged perspectives: village water projects in Uganda; school construction projects in Nicaragua; refugee resettlement projects in Costa Rica; secondary school teaching in rural Kenya; educational consulting projects in India and Nepal. Most recently, he has been working with the Wang Foundation in support of their poverty alleviation and distance learning projects in rural China. Ron’s current focus is on developing transformative learning experiences that help students become more effective global citizens. He earned a B.A. in English and Psychology from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1969 and a M.Ed. in Student Personnel Administration and Intercultural Communications from the University of Delaware in 1977.
